Sturgeon Lake is located 45 km northwest of Prince Albert in a sheltered valley of the Sturgeon River/ Shell River watershed.  The lake has a regional park with campground and cottage subdivision in the northwest corner. The south side of the lake is the northern edge of the Sturgeon Lake First Nation.

The Amisk Adventures site where the regatta will be conducted is sheltered in a mixed wood forest of pines and aspen. This site was host to the Western Canada Summer Games of 1999.

The pictures below were taken during these Western Canada Summer Games.
