The Saskatoon Rowing Club thanks the City of Saskatoon for being the primary sponsor of the fall 2003 Dynamic Opportunities
for Youth Rowing Program and the secondary sponsor for the Spring 2004 program. The program provides a learning opportunity for young adults to learn leadership, team work and
determination skills in a modified Learn to Row Program. The Saskatoon Optimist Club with the Saskatoon Rowing Club
deliver the program, now finished its third successful year of operation.
Bingo News
Remember, if you sign up for a bingo, IT IS UP TO YOU to fill that spot. If you cannot work, then call
other rowers, bug your family and your friends, or find someone who will work for cash ($50). It has been
decided by your humble rowing executive, that those who do not show up or find a replacement will be
assigned an EXTRA bingo, as well as the one missed. Two time offenders do not row. If you actually want
to work extra bingos and get paid for it, Contact Charlotte (343-5650) or Diane (373-4749). Have fun!!

Dynamic Opportunities For Youth Rowing Program

A Partnership with Dynamic Mutual Funds; Foundation 2000 Plus; Saskatoon Optimist Club; and the Saskatoon Rowing Club
In 2001 the Saskatoon Rowing Club participated in an across Canada rowing program for kids that might not otherwise have the opportunity to benefit from the rowing experience. The
following is an exerpt from the Foundation 2000 Plus wrap up
SASKATOON: Saskatoon Rowing Club (SRC)
10 participants
As the first partner in the national expansion of Dynamic Opportunities for Youth, the SRC was well organized for the program, and the results are shown in feedback from counsellors and participants alike. Both the club executive and the coaching staff showed exceptional commitment and preparation for the program, developing creative sessions for participants and meticulously recording their activities in a journal.
Fourteen students signed up for the program from Bedford Road Collegiate and the Native Urban Council. While the latter group did not complete the program due to logistical problems at the Council, the Bedford Road group was a huge success. Participants started with instruction and a fun race on rowing machines, and gradually progressed through the different boat types. All participants had a chance to row together in various combinations, including supervising teachers and counsellors. Optimist Club volunteers provided snacks at each session.
The program wrapped up with a fun race day, a ‘rowing trivia game’, and a Bar-B-Q, allowing participants to demonstrate their newfound skills both on the water and off. Program coaches, volunteers from the rowing club and local Optimists organized the event. Medals, t-shirts, and a certificate of completion were subsequently presented to participants at their school.
Media coverage included a feature by Saskatoon Global TV, CTV News and an article in the Star-Phoenix, Saskatoon’s major daily newspaper.
